The internal wranglings and bickering within the opposition party took a turn for the worse on Monday morning when it degenerated into fisticuffs and shedding of blood at the Asylum Down Headquarters of the party.
But for the timely arrival of Police personnel from the Nima Divisional Command, a different story will have been told.
Our reporter Obeng Manu who was present at the scene told Peacefm that the turbulence was sparked as a result of a misunderstanding that ensued between the old and new security guards.
According to him, unbeknownst to the old security guards who reported to work today, an official of the party has set in motion a grand scheme to oust them and replace them with a new set of guards.
Riled about the development and insisting they had no information about the new arrangement, they questioned the new guards and upon realizing that they were there to take their job; they called on their friends from Nima to help them forcefully drive them out.
The decision to throw the new guards out using force didn’t yield any positive dividends, according to our reporter.
The ensuing melee prompted the Nima police led by Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Nuhu Dzango to intervene. His outfit has subsequently begun investigations into the matter.
“…the reception of the headquarters suffered the most damage with broken glasses strewn everywhere….a gentleman who had come to visit a friend at the party office suffered a deep cut on his body when one of the fighters drew a cutlass in his direction…blood was sputtered all over the place,” Yaw Obeng Manu reported.
Aside this, Hajia Fati Amadu a known figure in the NPP is also said to have launched a scathing attack on the Chairman, Paul Afoko and General Secretary, Kwabena Agyapong respectively.
According to Obeng Manu, she reportedly accused them of setting an agenda against Nana Akufo Addo and nearly beserk together with a colleague at the party headquarters.
“Hajia Fati and her friends acted violently. Her friend took her clothes off and was only in her brassiere and a pair of shorts. She vowed to completely go naked and expose her private parts to Kwabena Agyapong and Paul Afoko if they continued their agenda”, Obeng Manu reported.
Currently, quite a sizeable number of police personnel have been stationed at the headquarters to maintain law and order.
