Ghanaian film-maker, Leila Djansi, has extended her wings to Nigeria as the award winning script writer. She is part of the production creating a web series for the popular Nigerian web platform, iROKOtv.
Leila, who made the official announcement last week, touched down in Nigeria on Tuesday, July 1, to start work on the project.
She is expected to direct an upcoming series which is produced by iROKOtv’s Roc studios.
Established in December 2011, iROKOtv has grown to become one of Africa’s leading online movies streaming on websites. It has given free and instant access to over 5,000 Nollywood films since it was launched.
Dubbed the “Netflix ‘of Africa, iROKOtv is the world’s largest legal digital distributor of African movies which has provided free and paid for Nigerian films on demand.
The creation of a series is its new addition and as such, the expertise of filmmakers such as Leila is needed on board to create a quality production.
Its parent company, iROKO Partners, was founded by Jason Njoku and Bastian Gotter in December 2010, with its headquarters in Anthony village, Lagos, Nigeria.
Leila, who released a new movie, And Then There Was You, in February, is currently working on the release of a new feature movie titled, Where Children Play, which is expected to be shot in locations in Savannah, Georgia.
An award winning film-maker, Leila, shot to fame in Africa when her movie, Sinking Sands, earned her many awards, including the Best Actress Awards in AMAA 2011.
Her work and contribution to the Ghana Film Industry has been recognised by UNiFEM Ghana and The African Women Development Fund.
