Menzgold customers call for government’s intervention

GNA – The Coalition of Aggrieved Customers of Menzgold (CACM) have appealed to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to intervene to retrieve their locked-up monies following the liquidation of the gold trading company.

The group stated that the President’s intervention would bring an amicable solution to the crisis, which had made life difficult for some customers.

Mr Francis Owusu, the Secretary of CACM, made the appeal when the group staged a demonstration in Tarkwa to demand their investments from Menzgold Ghana Limited.

He said: “As a result of the apparent recklessness of state institutions such as the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Bank of Ghana, many customers have lost their lives.”

“As the Father of this nation, the positive actions you take will ultimately resolve the matter.”

Mr Owusu suggested that all passports of shareholders of Menzgold must be seized to ensure that they stayed in the country until the problem was resolved.

He said there should be a round-table discussion involving customers, management of Menzgold and the Government on how affected customers could get back their investments.

He urged the Government to establish a public commission of enquiry into the matter to forestall future occurrences.

Mr Owusu pleaded with the authorities, through the Lands Commission and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority, to help trace all assets belonging to Menzgold.

He led hundreds of customers, in red and black attires, to present their petition to Mr Gilbert Kennedy Asmah, the Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa Nsuaem.
