According to information gathered, the TDC taskforce visited the church at Community 9, Tema, Thursday evening and demolished the auditorium, which was under construction, for allegedly not obtaining permit.
A visit to the place revealed that the structure, which was at foundation level, was surrounded by several storey buildings as well as others under construction which had been demolished. Some black inscription on them read, ‘Stop Work by TDC, 13-2014.’
Although the auditorium had been demolished, DAILY GUIDE spotted some members of the church sitting on plastic chairs, expecting that church service would be in session that evening.
Bishop Obinim was also seen leaving the premises in his vehicle after visiting the scene, and made a report to the Tema Police.
Confirming the demolition exercise to DAILY GUIDE, Chief Superintendent Victor Amedeker, Community One District Police Commander, said his outfit received report from the head pastor of the church about the demolition of his church auditorium by a TDC taskforce.
According to the police Commander, an investigation had been instituted into the matter and that his outfit was yet to get in contact with the TDC to ascertain their side of the story.
He said, ‘The Community 8 Police Station received complaint from Bishop Obinim about some demolition which occurred at his church premises. We have commenced investigation into the matter and don’t want to comment on the issue until we get the side of TDC.’
The Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the TDC, Dorothy Asare-Kumah, when contacted via telephone, said she was yet to get information with regards to the demolition of the church.
She posited, ‘I can only comment when I have information with regards to the demolition’.
