The Downfall of Sarkodie ?
Ghanaian rapper Micheal Owusu Addo Known in showbiz as Sarkodie, reacting to accusation that he no longer grants interviews as he used to, some time back, the Tema based musician said he is cautious about interviews because he has come of age.
“One thing about Ghana which is a problem is when someone gives birth to his child, its hard for them to understand that the child has grown” said Sarkodie.
When this story was raised on the hottest entertainment show in Brong Ahafo on Anapua105.1 FM, this was what the panel members shared with Kwaku B the host of INFOTAINMENT.
Selly: I know Sarkodie to be a humble artist. If he’s saying he has come of age and so would not grant interview any how, I believe his choice of words might make it difficult for some people to understand. Because, it’s the same media/people that hyped him up to where he is today and if he’s going to be selective of whom he grants interviews to, then he mean to say that he only roll with the “big dogs” now. Critics may ask that he should remember where he came from.
Perhaps, he only meant to say because people now call him “arrogant” when he speaks, he’s going to be more careful of the interviews he grants. Not that he wouldn’t grant any as some of us may interpret his words.
Sir Joe: I think he got it all wrong with his words because 1 Corinthian 13: 11 says “when I was a child, I thought like a child but when I became a man, I put the ways of childhood away” therefore I see no wrong with one saying he is of age but to say he won’t grant interviews because of age was below the belt.
The media is where he got his maturity from, typical example is the promotion of his Mary album, and he couldn’t do it all alone with his age but was assisted by the media. I think it cold have been nicer to use [the words, I am] “cautious of interviews” than this.
Patrick: Journalists could be pretty delving in an annoying way; some tend to take things out of context. But it takes the privacy oriented person to get these “information pokers” off their trail and that’s one thing showbiz does not promise (privacy). The old adage, the top is a lonely place to be – is true because when one is at the top, nothing about that fellow goes unnoticed by the prying paparazzi and the public. Some may tag Sarkodie to be proud in a way that means he has forgotten his roots, but I think what he actually meant was, the least said on air, the better. This is because on air interview unlike face to face interview does not give the interviewee a lot of room to explain his or her utterance in a simplest way and what is the guarantee that the listening audience would all decode the message in the way and manner the sender intended? Sarkodie has had his short falls, but he is saying, “he has come of age”, shouldn’t be taken out of context but a sign of maturity and self control in an industry that doesn’t know the least about privacy.
Not long ago Akwesi Aboagye host of Peace fm entertainment review stopped Sarkodie from coming on his show to promote his MARY album. According to him he sees no reason to give Sarkodie an airtime to promote his event when he ,Sarkodie did not open his gates whenever they called on him for radio interviews.
So what we ask today is, Where is this “I have come of age” taking Sarkodie to?
