Kill Beat Stands The Chance Of Winning The Sound Engineer Of The Year – Hammer
Hammer, born Edward Nana Poku Osei is a record producer in the Ghanaian music industry. He is the founder and CEO of The Last Two Music Group and is also known for grooming some of the best artists Ghanaian Hip Hop or Hiplife has ever produced such as Obrafour, Tinny, Kwaw Kese, Sarkodie, Ayigbe Edem, etc. As a producer, he is credited as one of the pioneers and key figures in the popularization of Hiplife or Hip Hop made in Ghana.
Hammer in an interview on Anapua 105.1 Fm’s “Infotainment Show” [Sat 3pm-6pm] hosted by Kwaku B – The perfect gentleman, was asked about the comments made by Appiatus that, we(Ghanaians) can never do hip hop like the way Americans do it.
He said, hip hop is a worldwide thing which everybody is doing apart from the American , for example the Japanese, Chinese, the Australians, as such it would be extremely difficult to do better than what they do but what we can do is to add some elements to exhibit our culture .eg konka etc.
The media rather did not understand Appiatus well Hammer stated. But being a fellow professional sound engineer he understood what Appiatus meant and in his opinion he was not condemning Ghanaian Hip Hop.
“We can’t do more than they do, we can’t sell what they are doing there for them, because they live there and they know more than us, but trying to portray our culture through the Hip Hop can be sold”.
Talking about his new projects , Hammer went on to say that he was now in the studio with Area boy from Brong Ahafo who came out with a track called Abena, as well as T Flow from Cape coast. Of course the bigger project he was working on was with Sarkodie and Obrafour.
“Ghana Music Award{GMW} is just around the corner. Who do you think stands the chance of winning the sound engineer award?” Hammer was asked. ”Killbeat stands the chance of taking that award. He has been very phenomenal in the year under review, EL , as well as Magnam who did illuminatti with Sarkodie and DJ Bleez of Tonga” Hammer answered.
The respected producer went on to advise parents not “throw their children into gutters” if they want to pursue music as their career. “The youth shouldn’t give up on their dreams because no matter what, people will discourage them. My first track made the best selling album till date in the history of hiplife. I was able to do that because I didn’t give up” he said.
