Former Kotoko attacker Charles Taylor blames Coach Hans-Dieter Schmidt for the team’s failure to win the CAF Confederations Cup in 2004.

The Porcupine Warriors suffered a painful loss to rivals Hearts of Oak in the inaugural competition 16 years ago.

Taylor who had crossed carpets from Hearts of Oak to Kotoko was in action for the Porcupine Warriors scoring in the return leg match in Kumasi.

The ex-Ghana international after finding the back of the net got substituted by the Coach with few minutes to play, a change which left Kotoko fans wondering following the player’s huge influence in the game.

Sixteen years after losing the coveted trophy, Taylor recall the painful defeat attributing it to the “pour” tactical change from his former Club.

“It was his (Hans-Dieter Schmidt) fault that’s why we lost, I don’t know what he saw, and I don’t know why he had to substitute me from the game,” he said on GTV sports+.

“Perhaps Hearts of Oak did something to him to make him change me because I personally don’t know why he had to change me.

“I had scored and I was in control, I thought I was going to finish the game. If not for that we would have won the game but the Coach decided to change me.

“He later on came to apologize for making that substitution. But is past and gone, it still in my memory thought.”

Kotoko after missing the title have been unable to make any meaningful impact in the inter-club competition since then.
