President Mahama promises ‘Super Highway’ between Accra and Kumasi
President John Mahama has assured commuters on the deplorable Accra-Kumasi highway that they will soon have some relief, when the road is given a facelift.
Addressing members of the Eastern Regional House of Chiefs in Koforidua as part of his two-day visit to the Eastern Region, President Mahama disclosed that a transaction advisor has been engaged to work on a public-private partnership programme to establish a super highway between Accra and Kumasi using private sector funding.
According to him, toll booths will then be mounted on the road to collect tolls to pay off the private contractor.
The president Mahama expects the procurement process will be complete within the year for the contractor to begin work on that road, which he noted, government had spent so much on.
“When a road is funded by the Government of Ghana budged it faces the same challenge as all the other sectors face in terms of prioritization. That is why it has taken government a while to finish the Nsawam – Apedwa road, Accra- Adenta road , Accra- Ofankor road and the Sofo line inter-change in Kumasi, President Mahama explained.
President John Dramani Mahama also promised the people of the Eastern Region, plans by government to fix the Asamankese, Akwatia , Kade, Oda enclave, the Kyem Abuakwa and the Krobo roads over the next three years.
